The consumer version of the Oculus Rift is coming! No, not this year, but even a release window of 2016 is something for fans of virtual reality to get excited about. It’s because of the latest information Oculus VR announced that I feel we’ll see a slight pickup in VR games on Kickstarter and elsewhere. After all, folks are going to want to play games on that consumer version headset when it’s finally available! V.E.C.T. is one such game, currently designed for Oculus Rift DK2, is an on-rails shooter inspired by the likes of Star Fox.

Basically, players command their ship as it travels down a predetermined path and shoot at objects as well as dodge obstacles. The dodging aspect makes use of the Oculus Rift’s featureset by allowing players to tilt their head left and right to maneuver their ship safely out of the way of danger. This control scheme was actually discovered by developer Cepheid Games while they intended to create a product that would induce motion sickness. Don’t worry! They actually discovered that head tilting mitigated such an effect, leaving simply a cool way to control the game which eventually become V.E.C.T.

Anyone can check out the demo right now (yes, even folks who don’t have a headset of their own just yet). Of course, V.E.C.T. was made with both Oculus Rift and motion control in mind, meaning if you don’t play that way you’re missing out on some of the experience. If successful with the $9,000 Kickstarter goal, the team hopes to expand the game to other VR platforms. Here’s V.E.C.T.’s Greenlight page if you’re looking to play on Steam.
