Have you ever seen those backyard MMA fight videos on YouTube and thought “What the hell?” Or maybe you thought “I’d love to do that, but I’m afraid to get hurt.” If you’re in the latter camp then we’ve got good news for you. Absolute Champion, or AbCham as I affectionately call it, is a new Kickstarter project that puts you in control of an MMA fighter of your own creation who throws it down MMO style against opponents from around the world. Call it a MMOMMA if you will.
Aside from the MMO aspects of the game the other element that separates Absolute Champion from the competition is that combat isn’t twitchy or reflect based, but rather turn based strategy. During the fight each player decides on the moves to perform and the amount of energy to expend on each. An interesting take for sure, something that will either be nail biting, or dull as a Kimbo Slice bout. Unfortunately the Kickstarter video doesn’t show any fighting, so the jury is still out on that one. However, one thing the video does show is the ability to sign up for tournaments with real-world money as the entry fee and possible prize to the top fighters. So theoretically a player could make a decent second income being an online MMA fighter.
The guys behind Absolute Champion are looking to raise $25,000 to wrap up development and have a deadline of March 6th to make it happen, bro.
