orionproject2One of the most ambitious projects in the history of video game technology is currently seeking funding, and you can get in on the ground floor of what may be remembered as one of the great leaps in gaming. The Orion Project, brought to us (hopefully) by the good folks over at Spiral Games Studios is a multi-planet, open-world, fully customizable romp through freedom city, complete with dinosaurs, robots, and spaceships. You and your droid companion will have free run of different-sized planets and an interactive AI that promises a unique experience every time you start the game up.

Open world games like this have been changing the face of video games lately, and The Orion Project is working hard to be the most ambitious title yet, with bigger worlds, more to do, and more ways to do it than any game yet released. The Orion Project has already given birth to the well-received and faithfully-updated Orion: Dino Horde, available on Steam for a real bargain price. The game will offer massive amounts of customization, both aesthetic and functional, with branching skills and more weapons than you could shake a dinosaur at.

This could end up being one of the great games of our time if the developers make the kind of game they’re talking about here. A giant universe, open to massive multiplayer, with PVP, an open galaxy, real time space combat, and character options to spare make this game one of the most promising titles to ever come to Kickstarter, blending elements from several currently-successful MMOs into what promises to be a real crowd pleaser. From Spiral Games Studios, it’s The Orion Project. While you’re at it, check out our review of Orion: Dino Horde.
