lostparadise2There was this brief resurgence of strategy game popularity around the time StarCraft II came out, and while fans of the genre reveled in what I thought was something of a renaissance for RTS, strategy-based gaming appears to be retreating back into its niche. While that’s all fine and good, I feel that this is a genre that deserves to have its place in the limelight, and for that to happen, all we need are a few good releases. If people start getting excited about tactics again, more great games will come out, and there will generally be more fun to be had. So, is Lost Paradise the Turn-Based Tactical Jesus we’ve all been waiting for? Well, that’s for you to decide, but here are the facts.

Lost Paradise is an online, competitive turn-based strategy game taking place during a post-apocalyptic war between humans and aliens, and while that seems like a bit of a tired concept, the unique little touches Lost Paradise brings to the table make it feel fresher than you’d think. Both the 2D and 3D art presented is of very high quality, and the complicated nature of character loadouts combined with a hex grid style of strategy mean that this game will probably appeal very well to hardcore tactical gameplay veterans. A variety of unit types and weapon customization options make this an extremely flexible experience where a dominant strategy is very unlikely to arise. Lost Paradise is also trying out a new monetization model, meaning the game will be free to play and, as the name of the model suggests, very much free-to-win.

lostparadise1If you’re interested in Lost Paradise or strategy gaming in general, I really feel like this title is worth a good hard look. Not only is this one of the most customizable tactics games I’ve ever seen, but the free-to-play nature makes it extremely accessible to newcomers as well. On top of all that, the game is very near completion. It’s in beta, the software is ready, and a wiki is already underway, so if the team over at LPGame can meet their $50,000 goal, the last levels of fine polish can be added, along with new functionality and features. To support Lost Paradise, you can pledge via Kickstarter, vote on Steam Greenlight, and share the heck out of the page, and if you have any questions, you can ask the developers directly via an AMA service.
