mightytacticalshooter1If you’re a gamer, you’ve almost definitely played a side-scrolling shooter. In fact, most of us spent our earliest days playing these, myself included. These were fun when we were kids, and they still are, but many of us are looking for something a little more tactical than “shoot the things”. This usually leads us to play turn-based strategy games, RTS, and RPGs, but what if there was something that appealed to both our childlike love of quick, arcade shooters and our developed grown-up brains? Well, I’d like you to meet Mighty Tactical Shooter, an upcoming project from Johnny Marshall.

mightytacticalshooter2Mighty Tactical Shooter looks like your average Gradius clone at first glance, but then it starts getting a little more involved. Time freezes, and you are able to take in the bullet hell surrounding you in good measure. You look at enemy placement, trajectory of their fire, and you environment with an analytic mind. This pays off right away as you explore your arsenal. You can plot the course of missiles, carefully targeting things one at a time for maximum effectiveness. You can spawn gravity wells that can distort the path of enemy bullets – or even send them back where they came from.

I see a ton of potential in this project, and I think this is one of the most exciting new projects of recent time, so go check it out! There’s gameplay footage, artwork, a bit of storyline, and even a playable demo with two complete levels. You can grab that on Windows, Mac, or Linux, or you can check out some reward tiers so you can see the whole game in action!
