You’ve simply got to appreciate when developers reference truly classic games as inspirations for their own. If nothing else, it definitely helps to get folks pumped. Team21’s upcoming title Dungeons of Aledorn notes games such as Betrayal at Krondor, Fallout, King’s Bounty, and Might & Magic just to name a few. With such high hopes there’s definitely a lot that Dungeons of Aledorn must live up to if its Kickstarter succeeds. As one should expect from that laundry list of references, this game is a truly difficult RPG with a complex, tactical system in play.

Players can expect a hardcore difficulty thanks to Dungeons of Aledorn’s focus on realism. The battle system will offer a wide variety of combat options, but that hardly means each is ideal. Strategy is required to try and keep on top of battles with the best options in each situation. When a player’s characters are hurt, they’ll lose some precious hit points as well as stamina. With lower stamina, it’s harder for your team members to effectively dodge attacks and the like. Quests include battles, exploration, puzzles, and the main story quest in particular features plot points which will have repercussions.

There’s a lot going on in Dungeons of Aledorn but looks like something classic RPG fans can really dig into. For all the features defined, developer Team21 require a surprisingly low $60,000 in Kickstarter funding. So far they’ve not mentioned a potential Steam release but of course the game is pegged for Windows launch eventually.
