There’s just something about side scrolling shooters. I’m not a fan of the genre, but that’s mostly because I suck at playing them. Still, Water: The World in Chaos does look like an interesting take on the style of gameplay even if it’s probably one I won’t play. Despite all that, though, I do love the premise behind the project. According to the pitch, some alien overlord dude watches the advert for an Earth water park and is bummed when he sees the people there having fun. You see, his planet is devoid of the bluish liquid that we rely on to survive. Which does beg the question as to what nutrients these guys need to stay alive.Water: The World In Chaos

Anyway, he sends his fleet over to our planet and greedily gobbles up all of the aqua for his own park. What a douche. So, in a sort of reverse Waterworld tale we’re left on basically a desert planet. And it’s up to a ragtag group of astronauts to take it to the enemy and siphon our precious oceans and lakes and streams and whatever back home. And that’s where Water: The World in Chaos starts.

These heroic half pints (well, they are short pixelated troopers afterall) shoot and and fly around in their jet packs taking down the alien army and the planet’s other monstrosities grabbing these globules to help enhance their abilities and take down the bastard that dried up the Earth. Water: The World in Chaos does boast a wide array of enemies and weapons, and the graphics are retro to the point that I had to check what year it is. Still, fans of the side-scrolling genre should find a nice place here.
