I like a good RPG, whether real time or turn based, which is why I find it hard to write what I’m about to say on The Legend of Herod. From the few screenshots that I’ve seen it looks like a cartoony homage to Blizzard’s Diablo series of ARPGs. Mostly in regards to the way that the UI looks with a red health orb on the left and a blue mana orb on the right. There also looks to be more in common with RPGs/MMOs but simplified to just a few buttons.

The Legend of Herod

These days just a few screenshots and some very basic understanding of the lore isn’t enough to keep my interest in a game. How does it play? Do you level up or is everything based solely on your gear? Are the only “abilities” that you can use the three spells and everything else just autoattacks? Sure, a lot of my burning questions can be answered in updates but unfortunately a good number of people these days need more upfront in order to toss down their hard earned moneys. And while I’ve pledged for less in the past that was when Kickstarter was still fresh. Again, this is all personal preference. Your mileage may vary.

I will say that the above isn’t enough to completely turn me off from backing The Legend of Herod. Far from it. In fact, I haven’t completely dismissed the idea of checking back in when more information is released. However, there are a couple things that have me concerned. They aren’t asking for much money, which leads me to believe that they’re in final development but nothing is mentioned in the pitch one way or the other. Also, the reward tiers look weird, particularly that there is nothing beyond $150. Even with a low goal I’d expect more levels to entice potential backers to dig a little bit deeper into their wallets.
