Visual novels are great diversions in and of themselves, but sometimes you want one that tries something different. while we don’t know an awful lot about Anime Studio Simulator, it certainly brings that something different to the table. For better or worse it’s not just your typical “choose your own adventure” tale usually associated with the genre.

Anime Studio Simulator

In Anime Studio Simulator you take on the role of a director of, well, anime. It’s up to you to manage your team and try to make it big. The game consists of some sort of Game Dev Tycoon style gameplay with standard visual novel fare. How this all works together I’m not sure but at least they have a demo to get a feel for how these rather disparate genres work together. If any crowdfunding campaign can benefit from having a playable prototype it’s this one.

Anime Studio Simulator

If there is anything that I have issue with in regards to the campaign for Anime Studio Simulator then it’s with the seemingly over-reliance on said demo. I have absolutely no problem with having something playable but I would also love to know more about how the game plays in the pitch. We sort of know the characters but what about the simulator part? The screenshots are also hard to read due to them being grouped together and so small.

In all, I’d love to know more about Anime Studio Simulator and if it’s the kind of game for me. Thankfully, we do have the demo but the pitch itself looks rather thrown together at the last minute.
