I grew up on text adventures from Infocom. From the moment I popped in Zork I fell in love with the genre. I have many reasons for wanting to see more games like that released today, but there are so few out there. Bob Bates, a veteran writer at Infocom, is working on an interesting text adventure called Thaumistry. And it sounds like it’ll be worth backing on Kickstarter when it launches.

Thaumistry

Earlier this month, in an interview with Adventure Gamers, he announced the development of Thaumistry. With their site launching, it’s also been announced that a campaign will be going live by the end of this month. And I have to say, I’m pretty excited to get to know more about the story when it does. What little there is already has me ready to toss my money at the screen.

Use Your Words

Text adventures have been, unfortunately, a dying breed in gaming. So, it’s most certainly great to see a pioneer back at the helm of one. The story revolves around a guy supposedly gifted with magical abilities in a contemporary world. It also seems to deal with the dangers of outing a group wishing to remain secret. That’s certainly something I can relate to.

Thaumistry

In any event, I’m looking forward to seeing Thaumistry launch later this month. I’m excited to see where Bob takes this story and I hope the best for him and the rest of the team working on it.
