How would you like to play a game about gentrification? It’s a pretty interesting concept to see committed to game format. The Wizards of Trinity Bellwoods sets itself in a digital representation of the real Trinity Bellwoods park in Toronto, Canada. Apparently, there’s a whole subculture of hipsters coming to the park to drink and litter their beer cans around. Luckily, or as a result of this incredible disregard for recycling, can collectors also inhabit the park in order to grab the discarded cans and sell them. In the game, you play as a can collector (or “wizard”).
The Wizards of Trinity Bellwoods gives you a view of this strange hipster ecosystem via arcade-style gameplay. You must wander through the park and collect cans without running into a hipster. Once you’ve collected enough, you can turn the cans in for cash and help your family out with these meager funds. The concept seems reminiscent of games such as Cart Life, but with a more humorous outward tone and appearance. If you liked that title then chances are you may still find something to enjoy about The Wizards of Trinity Bellwoods as well.
This game managed to secure a few thousand bucks in its first day on Kickstarter. It’s hard to tell just yet if that trend will continue, or if it was just a burst of affluent locals putting down funds. In any case, if they reach the goal of approximately $11,571 then you’ll be able to play The Wizards of Trinity Bellwoods on Android/iOS and eventually PC.
