Playa Games and King Art Games have teamed up to determine once and for all if gamers actually hate fun with their newest endeavor, Shakes & Fidget – The Adventure. Their extremely on the nose Kickstarter campaign cuts right to the chase in asking, nay demanding, that anyone who still wants to play a classic point & click comedy adventure support their project. They make a good argument as the campaign has already raised over $100,000 of its $294,993 funding goal.
Silly Shenanigans
Self-described as “The Naked Gun meets Spaceballs,” Shakes & Fidget – The Adventure offers a satirical take on the fantasy genre. It is based on the Shakes & Fidget webcomic created by Marvin Clifford and Oskar Pannier. The characters had previously appeared in a free-to-play mobile/browser game by Playa Games. Wanting to further explore the wacky world and characters, Playa reached out to Dwarves developer, King Art Games to help create a brand new adventure title.
King Art has already delivered three other Kickstarter projects, including the adventure title, The Book of Unwritten Tales 2. Still not convinced that this team knows their stuff? Here’s an excerpt from the campaign that will drive the point home.
“The entire development team is based in Europe, the same continent on which Game of Thrones and Star Wars were filmed, and many of our developers are carbon-based lifeforms, just like J. K. Rowling, Mel Brooks and the creators of Dungeons & Dragons!”
The game will see our titular heroes give up their tranquil lives as shop owners to once again set off on an adventure. Throughout the course of the game, players will traverse about 50 diverse locations. Everything from snowy mountains to (most likely) a literal lion’s den. Along the way they will encounter a host of animated characters and monsters. All developed under the art direction of series co-creator Marvin Clifford.
After the success of Thimbleweed Park earlier this year it’s safe to say that the audience for clever adventure games is out there. Even so, humor is a difficult thing to get right. Fortunately, if the Kickstarter trailer embedded above is any indication the project is in capable hands.
