uplift2For a little over a year, my iPod Touch was my primary game system, and while I’ll probably be struck by lightning for saying that, it doesn’t change the fact that many people who enjoy video games occasionally find themselves without a proper console. The thing about that is how few real, story driven games are available for mobile platforms, with most of them being quick, bite-sized, “play while you’re pooping” games. Fortunately, the fine young men at Bearwaves are working to change that by bringing us a deep and rewarding story-driven game for mobile platforms, a game called Uplift.

In Uplift, you play a little Green named Ra (Green is his race. He’s green.), who has the ability to use magic. One day, Ra is abducted from his village by the totally-not-communistic Reds, and he must go on many a quest in strange and often hostile lands to earn his freedom and return to his home. You’ll experience real-time combat and learn new spells throughout your journey as well as solve puzzles and converse with people Mass Effect-style as you explore a populated and well thought out universe full of lore and adventure.

Uplift includes great music, charming pixelated visuals, and a storyline inspired by the great science fiction writing of decades passed, and if successfully funded, it will be released on iOS, Android, and PC. Backers can expect things like beta access, t-shirts, and physical copies of the game, and a mere £2 will get you a download, at launch, on your choice of mobile platform.  The Uplift Kickstarter campaign runs until April 19th.
