outontop3Coming Out On Top is an upcoming dating sim that proved incredibly successful on Kickstarter last year. Much of this allure had to do with the fact that it focuses on lead character Mark Matthews as he pursues possible relationships with handsome men. The Kickstarter included a demo that saw a bit of updating, but a brand new demo has finally launched to tantalize players even further. Feel free to check out our original demo preview before reading these updated impressions!

outontop2The new Coming Out On Top demo is built off the original which means that it still starts off the same way. After years of hiding, Mark finally comes out to his best friends and finds that his dread was completely unwarranted. He is left feeling quite happy – great, in fact. Nearly as soon as he outs himself it seems the world is swarming with eligible men at his door! If you’ve already played the demo then this is all the same content as before. If not, it proves a lovely introduction to the main characters and basics of visual novel gameplay.

outontop2Playing the new Coming Out On Top demo is required for anyone who enjoyed the first one because of the additions it brings to the table. Now we finally get to see the basics of the dating sim gameplay. For example, players get to choose if Mark should study or goof off. It seems that regular choices between work/play will influence how he does in school versus how much satisfaction he gets from his personal life.

outontop3There are also now multiple men to meet and a handful of character-specific encounters available. This is great as it removes the feeling of being shoehorned into one path that the first demo presented. Many of these meetings are not required, either. As such, it is worth playing the demo at least once more to see what you missed. Hint: Try to keep Mark very open to new proposals to get in on some seriously enticing stuff.

outontop1As with the original demo, the new one is censored too. The full game will have no such restrictions, but also no apparent way to skip over such content. Anyone not considered a legal adult in their country of residence will have to wait on playing Coming Out On Top. In regards to other features, the body and facial hair toggles are now implemented. You can choose one, both, or none for each character separately. For some, this is exciting news, and others will probably never switch from the default hairstyles.

All in all, it is great to see how much progress has been made on Coming Out On Top. Playing the new demo proves that players have a surprisingly vast amount of freedom. Anyone looking for a good, fun romantic story will likely find it here without having to sacrifice some semblance of “gameplay” for it. With so many options presented just in the demo it’s expected that the full version of Coming Out On Top will simply be bursting to the seams with content.
