Fans of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas‘s gang wars will find familiar ground in The Turf, an RTS game that goes far beyond busting caps. With a Kickstarter campaign launched May 15th, 2016 by solo developer Marty Green, The Turf is currently in pre-alpha (and available on Itch.io) and promises a score of features that will trigger the completionist in all of us. Green has been making games since he was 12 years old, and he’s been doing it for 12 years.
Of course, taking out rival gangs is the main focus of the game, but how and where you do so is what sets The Turf apart. Several themed levels, wardrobe customization to set your gang apart as well as health and weapon upgrades are available in-game.
The aim of the game is as you’d expect – build up your gang and take control over all the turf in the game. This will include your typical gang related hot-spots like gun stores, police stations, and hospitals. Remember that scene in Scarface where Tony Montana was selling drugs in that police headquarters? Me neither. Each different building has different perks, so you’ll have to decide when it’s best to attack certain buildings, and when to stay away.
And for the peace keepers among us, you’ll also have the option of using lethal force or arresting rivals with absconded handcuffs. Hey, Good Guy Gangbanger, they should be thanking you for not blowing a hole in their chest, am I right?
The Turf is currently seeking about $14,000, and has so far collected $97 at time of writing. Will it hit it’s funding goal? We’ll keep you up to date.
