I’m a sucker for good yaoi visual novels, but the ones I enjoy the most have more than just romance attached to them. In the case of Legend of Rune, the world is literally at stake. In this “boy’s love” story, the titular character is destined to destroy the world. How he’s supposed to do this isn’t mentioned in the pitch, but I’m sure it has to do with fire. For the prophecy states that a boy with the mark of the fire clan will bring doom to the planet. Or something.

Legend of Rune

What I love about Legend of Rune, apart from the rather fetching young lads, is this path to buck destiny. For Rune is apparently on a quest to not do what he was born to do. It’s deeper tales like this that make me take notice; the whole boy romancing boy angle is secondary.

Each of his four traveling companions are potential boyfriends, but they all also have their own agenda for being by his side. It’s little nuances like their personalities and motivations that has most piqued my interest.

Legend of Rune

The other unique feature of Legend of Rune that I find interesting is the puzzle-like combat mechanics. This is a matching game similar to Candy Crush Saga, a feature that I enjoyed with HuniePop. How it all works together isn’t apparent in the pitch, but thankfully the provided demo should shed some light on what to expect.

In all, Legend of Rune looks to be a great addition to any yaoi fan’s library. The potential romances caught my interest, but the deeper story might be enough to get me to back this one.
