Strap on your belly dancing costumes kids, it’s time to hair-whip it good. That’s right, after $776,084 in sweet Kickstarter money and just over 3 years, Shantae: Half-Genie Hero has finally received an actual, honest to goodness, digital release date.

Developer, Wayforward announced in a Kickstarter update that the digital release for Shantae: Half-Genie Hero is December 20th. No retail release date has not been set as of yet. Publisher, Xseed is expected to be announcing something soon.

Backers will start receiving their game codes as early as next week on Steam and Xbox One worldwide. PS4, Vita, and Wii U versions will also release in North America and Europe at this time. Some consoles have time stamped codes that will not activate until December 12th, but that should still give backers a head-start on the game.

Beta Version Upgrades

Backers who pledged at the Early Access level can already enjoy the full game over on Steam. Wayforward has upgraded the Beta content for Shantae: Half-Genie Hero with the full release as of December 1st. However, as Steam technically considers this version a demo, it will be deactivated on the game’s full release date.

Overall, the response has been pretty positive. It seems backers aren’t having many hard feelings over Wayforward dropping the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game a few months back. They have, however, been looking for news about the physical rewards they earned during the Shantae: Half-Genie Hero campaign. Looks like Wayforward won’t be getting a break anytime soon.
