If the numbers are anything to go by, it’s unlikely players have had their fill of the delicious, fleshy taste of Numantian Games’s lurch-away success, They Are Billions. It’s still in early access, and is yet to feature the promised story campaign, but that hasn’t stopped the frantic survival strategy infecting over 400,000 players.

Still, if you’re anything like me, watching your beloved village fall to the undead horde gets upsetting after a few hundred tries. Here’s some more games like They Are Billions to scratch that itch. Actually, that itch looks really nasty. You uh, you might want to get that thing checked out. Why are looking at me like that?

They Are Billions

Judgement: Apocalypse Survival Simulation

At first glance, Suncrash’s Judgement: Apocalypse Survival Simulation checks off a lot of boxes on the They Are Billions-ometer. It’s an apocalypse survival simulation, for one, so that’s that settled. Tactical base management? Yup. Pause button to alternate between real-time and turn based? Yup. Bad things that want to do bad things to you? I mean, that’s just videogames really, but yup. But where They are Billions is all about the big picture, Judgement focuses on the more detailed aspects of individual survival.

They Are Billions

Kingdoms and Castles

They are Billions is great. You know it’s great, because you’re here looking for more games like it. But it is hecking oppressive at the best of times. Lion Shield’s Kingdoms and Castles lets you do the whole town management and defense thing, minus the gloom. There’s still plenty of depth involved, but Kingdoms and Castles is great for when you want to take it easy. Also, Numantian, do you see that bright yellow glow all over everything? That is called sunshine, my friends. It’s quite nice sometimes. You can check out Kingdoms and Castles here, or read about me trying my best to be an utter bastard with it here.

They Are Billions

Frostpunk

Frostpunk isn’t out yet. That’s not going to stop me gushing about it, though, because it looks cool. If there’s one thing my four months in game journalism have taught me, it’s that games that look cool deserve absolutely no scrutiny whatsoever. So I’ll reiterate: Frostpunk is a cool game for cool people that you should definitely be excited for. Developer 11 Bit Studios has a great track record, being the minds behind Anomaly and This War of Mine. And also, it just looks cool, ok? I’ve literally just now noticed that could be taken as a pun on ‘frost’. I’m not going back and rewriting this paragraph now. It’s not a pun. It’s a cool game. Brrrr.

They Are Billions

Zombies Ate My Neighbors

It’s just like that bit in They Are Billions where the zombies eat your neighbors. Immortal classic. Do it.

If you’re still struggling with They Are Billions, don’t forget we’ve got a terrible strategy guide that shouldn’t exist here.
