Games such as Minecraft, Terraria, and Starbound have massive audiences thanks to their sprawling, procedurally generated worlds, crafting interfaces, and the freedom they provide players. It only makes sense that more games will continue to come of that same type. The latest out there is Moonman which is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter. Although it has obvious inspirations from said games, it’s still poised to chart its own journey. Developer Ben Porter has been working on the game for two years now and is hoping to get additional help and the time required to push it to completion.
Moonman puts players in the shoes of, well, the “moonman” – a happy green bipedal being – who needs to collect moon pieces. Of course, collecting each fragment will require exploration of different landscapes. You’ll meet weird characters along the way as long as a host of dangerous enemies. Items such as masks and weapons will help but you’re also going to need to mine resources in order to craft more useful goodies. Weapons in particular come in a variety of forms (throwing, melee, etc) and masks range from cool (knight helm) to creepy (skull) to goofy (pig). Aside from the moonman’s default face looking a bit like a Minecraft Creeper, the pixel art style is quite distinct.
Excited for Moonman to become a reality? You can help pledge toward its Windows, Mac, and Linux release as it has a hefty goal of $35,000 AUD (about $28,315). Another way to help is by giving the game an upvote on Steam Greenlight.
