approaching infinity1Star Control in an infinite procedurally generated universe.  That’s the point where designer Bob Saunders could drop the mic and walk off the stage when describing his upcoming game, Approaching Infinity.  Of course when asking for money it’s usually a good idea to provide a few more details.

Approaching Infinity is described as a “2D top-down strategic space exploration game, with a focus on combat, quests, loot, and unique environments.”  You travel from planet to planet ripping them asunder for resources and artifacts that can later be sold and traded.  Look out for pirates and angry aliens in your travels though, you’ll have to use a variety of strategies to attack their territory while defending yours.

A lot of this may look and sound familiar to anyone that’s played such classic BBS door games a Trade Wars, VGA Planets, and Barren Realms, but that’s a good thing.  Unfortunately those of you that are closer to high school than you are to retirement may not be entirely familiar with the formula and should head over to the Approaching Infinity Kickstarter page to check out the gameplay videos.  While the graphics might not grab your attention, it’s the fun and complexity that will rise to the surface as you focus on strategic thinking over lighting quick reflexes that will hopefully pull you in.

The Kickstarter campaign for Approaching Infinity runs until December 11th and has a funding goal of $5,000.
