elite2There’s a space combat game that had a wildly successful Kickstarter campaign, has some gorgeous visuals, comes from some very experienced developers, and promises the universe.  No, it’s not Star Citizen, I’m talking about Elite: Dangerous, and it’s getting closer to release every day.  While I share everyone’s excitement for Star Citizen, I also know that completion of the game is most likely a few years away, at a minimum.  Elite: Dangerous on the other hand just entered its 3rd phase of Alpha testing, which adds docking, hyperspace jumps, and ship customization to the already complete online multiplayer and dogfighting.  While this doesn’t mean that a release is right around the corner, we’ll be trading, fighting, empire building, and backstabbing in deep by the end of the year according to the dev team.  If you absolutely cannot wait you could always become a backer via the Elite: Dangerous website, it’ll get you Alpha access.  Be warned though, at about $330 it’s not cheap.

For the rest of us poors here’s a a recently released video showing the new docking maneuvers to help with the wait..
