ninjapizza2Inspired by a real-life Ninja Pizza Girl, a game bearing the same title is being created by Disparity Games, a team with tons of industry experience and a gorgeous game to show for it. Apparently, Ninja Pizza Girl brands itself as “a serious game about bullying, emotional resilience – and pizza delivering ninjas!” it doesn’t have the pretentious tinge of a game made purely to manipulate your emotions. It comes off as a fun arcade romp through a techno-punk dystopia, and I’m definitely okay with a message begin thrown in there.

In addition to the non-preachy approach Ninja Pizza Girl takes to emotional storytelling, it has a great and refreshing all-inclusive difficulty curve. Basically, if you’re no good at platforming, you’ll fall, but instead of getting a GAME OVER screen, you just fall to a lower path through the level. The lower you fall, the easier things get, but players who manage to stay on the difficult path are rewarded with more opportunities to gain points. This is a fantastic way to engage all players into the experience while still allowing more skilled players to enjoy themselves without there being some sort of difficulty selection prior to playing. You don’t have health, you have emotional fortitude. You lose some if you screw up, but if you screw up in front of all your friends, they laugh at you, and that makes you sad.

ninjapizza1The artwork is gorgeous, especially when you get in to “the zone”. The world becomes more colorful and bright, and everything just flows. Ninja Pizza Girl is packed with great ideas, and it appears to deal with serious issues without shoving them down your throat and ruining your fun. If the small $35,000 goal is met, the game will come to an assortment of platforms. The standard PC, Mac, iOS and Android ports are all there, but in addition to that, the game has been approved for Wii U and hopefully XBONE. There’s also a playable demo right there on Kickstarter, but if you’d rather see me fumble around with it, subscribe to our YouTube! Or just watch the video below.
