Never Alone may not be a crowdfunded game, but it sure has a ton of heart. With great visuals, a story told from a unique perspective, and neat documentary features interspersed, this is one game worth completing. As a puzzle platformer, there are some tough spots though! If you’re looking for help then you’ve come to the right place. This game guide should serve as a walkthrough of the entire game, which takes around 4 to 6 hours to complete. Of course, it will only really discuss moments of actual puzzle (that way, I don’t have to type “walk right” a million times over). If you need to inspect a photo in detail just click on it.
1:Prelude
“The Inupiat are an Alaska Native people who have thrived for thousands of years in one of the most formidable environments on Earth.” – Robert Cleveland (Nasruk)
Never Alone begins by introducing you to its controls. Run right away from the polar bear, jump when prompted (over chasms and up raised pathways) until you can go no further. The fox will be introduced. As Fox, walk left over a thin ice sheet and jump onto a raised section. After the polar bear falls, head right to return to the girl, Nuna.
[wp_ad_camp_1]
2: Tundra
“The weather did not clear up as a blizzard was followed by yet another blizzard.”
Run while the narrator speaks. Crossing the path of an owl unlocks a documentary-style video for you to watch whenever.
At a large wall, switch to Fox and climb up the steep path. Make sure to press the climb button repeatedly until it reaches the top. Then press the required button to drop a rope for Nuna to climb up.
Next the game introduces players to heavy winds. When the winds blow, you cannot proceed forward. Jump down into the crevice and wait until wind stops to continue the trek rightward.
After more walking you are taught another mechanic against wind. Brace, which places both Nuna and Fox into low positions, wills top them from being blown over by heavy winds. Brace right before wind picks up – listen for audio clues and visual with the snow moving right before wind to time bracing.
Nuna will reach a cliff facing a large expanse of water. Ensure that Fox is near to the edge and you will see a large fish spirit appear. When its head and spine turn bright white (aka: are no longer transparent) that means you are safe to walk on it. Jump on.
When both characters are aboard, control Fox and move him to the right edge of the fish. This will guide the spirit to move right across the water to another spirit. When its head lights up, jump on and proceed to the third fish spirit. Jump onto his bright white back, switch to Fox, then walk Fox to the right edge of the spirit platform which will move it right. You will finally reach another landmass to continue your journey through.
With a high steep wall in front, the game teaches players another mechanic. Control Fox and climb up the wall for a few seconds. Right before he is about to fall down, press left (the opposite direction of wall) and the jump button. If timed properly, Fox will land on a floating spirit nearby.
Make Fox go toward the right end of the spirit platform and it will lower to Nuna’s height. Control her and climb up. From there, both her and the Fox are high enough to jump over the high wall.
While platforming over some ice cold water, make sure to use the brace button when wind picks up. Otherwise, one or both characters may be blown into the water which is a game over state.
Next, there is an even larger wall which seems impossible to pass. As Fox, head underneath the big ice wall. In this new area, do the Fox’s wall climb, then wall jump back and forth between the two close walls.
With Fox at the top some spirits will appear. Wait until the left one turns bright and then have Fox jump on top. Another spirit will appear and light up. Jump on so it lowers down to Nuna’s height. Controlling Nuna, climb onto the low spirit, jump onto the next, then finally jump onto the high wall.
You next enter an area where three spirits appear overhead out of reach. Once at the wall dead end, climb with Fox and then jump onto the closet spirit. Jump to the second, and then third, which Nuna can reach after it is lowered.
[divider]3: Nuna’s Village
“It is said that with each gust of wind, the powdery snow blew in every direction.”
After discovering a wall to high to climb, control Nuna and climb onto the bird spirit’s beak who appears. Then jump with Fox, which will initiate the spirit to raise up over the wall.
At the end of a pathway you will see a large gap and wooden structure. Wait until the wind pushes heavily to the right and then jump – Nuna and Fox are flung high over the gap.
Control Fox at the next wooden structure and stand underneath it. Jump up to the right half, then wall jump to the left, then wall jump again out to the right. Fox should then land on the spirit nearby. Walk to the right of its beak so it slides closer to Nuna. As her, climb on and then ride the spirit over the gap.
With another wall in your path simply use Fox’s wall climb to reach the top and then drop a rope down for Nuna to climb.
Upon discovering another wooden structure, and little human-like creatures, you must wait until the right-facing wind picks up and then jump to land on the wooden platform. Head down and jump to a smaller wooden platform (following after the little people). At the bottom you’ll discover a box. This box can be moved with Nuna.
Push or pull the box left until it is close to a tall wooden structure. Make Fox climb up the structure and then drop a rope from the top so Nuna can climb it. Continue left.
This next bit can prove challenging. When you are on a wobbly wooden platform a little person begins throwing rocks. Do not get crushed by them! After one is thrown, have Nuna leap up to where the rock-thrower resides. Walk through that upper area and find the drum. With it now on her back, continue left past the wobbly platform.
There’s another box here so push it toward the tall wooden structure. Fox must climb this then jump to the nearby ice-covered cliff. Drop the rope from here then have Nanu pull the box to the cliff. With that height, she can now reach the rope and climb up.
After the cutscene, head right. You soon come across some wooden structures and heavy wind which blows them over. A small white ball appears to teach players how to use the bola. Aim and shoot at the orb to reveal another spirit. Wait for it to lower and light up, at which point you can jump onto its head.
After this, you come across a large piece of blue ice jutting from the ground. Hit anything that looks like this with your bola.
Once two large icicles have been broken you come across another ball. Shoot it and reveal spirit. For this section, make sure to brace when required so you don’t fall off mid jump.
There is another wall ahead with a small opening near the bottom. Send Fox through so that the orb is attracted to it. Then proceed left with the Fox and orb in an ice tunnel under the ground until they emerge on the other side. Jump on the waiting spirit. When the orb is in range, shoot it with Nuna’s bola. A new spirit appears that is just the right height to allow both characters to reach the next area.
Another tall wall stands in the way but an orb appears once Fox walks to it. Hit this via Nuna to unleash the spirit. Climb on top then wait for right-facing wind to pick up. Jump then to be pushed to the next platform.
Run right continuously. Destroy ice jutting from the ground with your bola and continue running and jumping until a cutscene plays.
[divider]4: Ice Floes
“Following that, it stopped briefly and then became windy all over again. It was difficult to see anything in the blizzard.”
After hitting land, break the ice in your path. Jump onto a moving ice block before it gets too far away with both characters. Watch out as some are breaking and sinking!
When the polar bear appears, keep moving right. Eventually, there appear to be no more places to run to. At this point the bear will stare you down – hit it with a bola. If all goes well it should charge and break the ice. Your iceberg sinks but spirit fish appear to take you right to the next area.
Out of the polar bear’s grasps new danger awaits. After a few platforms you discover ice blocks which slam into each other. Being in the middle when they slam gets you a game over. Time your jumps well to make it through these bashing blocks of ice before they slam shut again. It may take a few tries. Notice that most blocks have a safe ledge area where you can rest to fix timing.
The polar bear will return after you walk far enough. Move Nuna and Fox toward a raised area and stand near the wall to keep her safe (for now). If you take too long, the bear will be able to grab her regardless. Have Fox climb right wall, then wall jump to left and climb onto the platform in the middle of the stage.
The strategy you use in this part is to jump Fox down to the bottom and walk toward the polar bear. When it approaches, have Fox climb the leftmost wall, then wall jump to center platform. While the bear is distracted then the girl can safely climb down and use her bola to hit it. Once hit, run back up to her safe spot from the polar bear.
The ice in the center of the raised platform falls (and possibly Fox with it). Draw the polar bear’s attention via Fox again, then return to top platform. Make sure you jump before falling through the gap. Nuna then must drop down again and use the bola. Half of the platform falls leaving Fox unable to get back up the way it had been before.
Fox will draw the bear left, and then need to wall jump over the bear. After that, head to where Nuna stands. Luckily, the right wall breaks at this point as an exit.
[divider]5: Whale Spirit
“Although Kunuuksaayuka was a good hunter during clear weather, the blizzardy weather simply was not a time to hunt.”
You begin in water. Swim up until you reach the surface and head left once there. Break the icicles to proceed. Dive underwater and then make a half circle up to the left side.
Break ice to the left and right of the spirit here. Now Fox can climb the right wall and wall jump onto the spirit. Do so and see a new spirit appear. Walk Fox to the right side of spirit platform so it lowers and get Nuna onboard. Then Fox can climb and jump from the left wall now and land on the second spirit. It will be lowered to allow the girl access.
Jump up to the area above and spy more ice above them. Use the bola on the ice at least 3 times to break it. When water is raining down from the hole you can dive underwater again. Take this path and then get out as soon as an above-water area appears.
There’s another spirit waiting here. As Fox, climb the wall and then wall jump to spirit’s back. Try to land on the left, or walk over to the left edge when you can as this brings it down for Nuna to climb on. Push Fox to the right edge and the spirit will ascend to a new area with a wall, spirit to the right of this wall, and an area above.
Send Fox through the small gap under the right wall so it lands on a spirit there. Move Fox to right side of it so the spirit moves closer to a far wall. From here, wall climb, then wall jump back and forth until you reach the top.
Spy an orb on the left. Try to jump to that ledge and (hopefully) make it or you’ll have to get back up there again. When done correctly, Fox lures the ball between the two high up platforms so Nuna can hit it with her bola. A new spirit appears in the bottom section.
Jump onto this with Fox and sit on the left side so the spirit moves left. You will make another orb appear when near to it. Ensure that Nuna shoots this too to bring a new, vertical spirit which clings to the wall.
Make Fox bring the spirit it’s riding back to the rightmost area, near the wall. To lower the vertical spirit, jump down with Fox. Now Nuna can climb onto the vertical spirit’s back and then jump off to climb onto the other spirit.
Now you need to get Fox back up so it can lure the vertical spirit higher, toward the ledge. Wall climb then wall jump with Fox to land on the spirit. Wall climb from here to be in the upper area and bring the vertical spirit upward too. Finally, have Nuna grab the vertical one’s back and then wall jump left to be in the upper section.
Break the ice here so Fox can wall climb and jump off the left wall to land on a spirit. It lowers for Nuna to climb on. Once she’s in place, have Fox wall climb and jump off the wall again to land on a higher spirit. Lower this too to usher Nuna up onto it, and then onto another area at the right.
A vertical spirit clings to the wall here so have Nuna grab ahold. Then use Fox to wall climb and then jump to reach higher, bringing the vertical spirit with it. Nuna can then jump off and be up there with her companion.
The spirit here can be climbed by Nuna with no fuss. Position Fox on the left side so the spirit rises toward another platform. You’ll fall into a strange section. Have Fox stay on the upper area while Nuna heads down the steps.
Move Fox left so that two spirits appear on Nuna’s side. She can grab the spirit’s long arm and swing. Swing from the one spirit to the next. Then walk up the steps. Bring Fox the left edge as well in his area to make a vertical spirit appear. Have Nuna grab on then switch to Fox and have it wall climb and hang from a small ledge. At this height the girl can then jump off and grasp the section to her right. Break the ice here to bring Fox up with Nuna.
Another long-armed spirit appears so have Nuna grab and swing from it to the left platform. Break more ice and water pours out. Now head to the water and swim down to the left and along the underwater path as it heads right.
Swim up to where you see light shining through water and get up. The waterfall in this area doesn’t allow a bola to be shot through.
Instead, head left with Fox so it can wall climb and jump to an area over here. Go right, past another water fall, and jump beyond it to land on the far right. This attracts the orb. Head down where the orb floats and then into the small pool of water, bringing the orb with you. Now Nuna can shoot it!
Another vertical spirit appears. Make Fox wall jump its way up again so it brings the spirit (and Nuna) up with it. In this area, shoot down a large icicle with three or more shots.

“One day, he wondered, what, oh what, is causing the water to be like this anyway?”
Go to the right until reaching some wooden structures. The Fox can get up no problem so simply have Nuna climb up onto the left building and jump from there to the right.
Right after that you see a rope hanging down over a platform. Try to jump on it but the weight causes it to collapse. Now, use Fox to jump over to the right. Walk him onto the upper wooden platform and it will bend down. Send Nuna back to the left section, climb onto the upper platform, and jump across to where Fox now sits.
Nuna can climb ladders. Have her climb up high while Fox sits on a suspended platform. As Nuna, push the box (don’t pull), which moves a connected platform underneath. Switch back to Fox and jump on it – then move the girl out of the way of the box and it will move automatically back down. If it doesn’t slide automatically, just push or pull the box to the right. Nuna can stand on the box to jump to the platforms above her. Fox can simply climb up the wall.
This next section can be quite challenging. The green beings flying through the air will grab Nuna or Fox if they can and cause a game over. Do not let their faces/arms touch either character. It’s okay to run through their green gas trails, however. They always move in a pattern so watch their pattern to ensure you say out of danger.
At an apparent dead end, send Fox wall climbing and jumping up a wooden structure. Once up, jump to the first suspended platform on the left. This drops it down so Nuna can reach the rope underneath. Have her grab it, then swing left to the second platform which she can climb onto.
If you want a collectible you can work with the platforming further left. Otherwise, send Nuna to jump over the gap to the right and proceed forward.
Next you’ll find two platforms. Pull the box on the far right onto the right platform to change the slope of the platform above. Send fox up there, then wall climb to the second story of the wooden building. Wall climb and jump again to reach the top floor. Notice the rope up here and send it down so Nuna can climb up.
Have her grab the box and push it down the way Fox came up. After it smashes through the second floor push it down to the left platform, which weights it differently. With the angle now switched you can get Nuna onto a rope hanging from the right side of the screen. Have her swing and reach the next area – but be careful that Fox isn’t captured while doing this.
After close run-ins with the green beings you’ll be at another structure. Have Fox wall climb and then jump to a higher platform, at which point it lowers so Nuna can reach it. Wall climb and jump again then send Fox walking to the right. He’ll trigger the ceiling to collapse somewhat, again allowing both characters to continue rightward.
Remember to brace as the winds are very strong in this section. When the building begins moving, be ready to jump off before it collapses completely. Fox should land up above Nuna. Head right with Fox until bird spirits appear so she can walk across them.
The third spirit follows Fox, so walk right on the upper path to keep it moving. Once you reach the fifth spirit, a cutscene plays.
[divider]7: Forest
Fox now has the ability to basically go anywhere. The first puzzle introduces you to these new mechanics. Spy a spirit platform (on a tree branch). Hold the prompted button to have Fox pull the spirit downward until Nuna can climb on top. Then, pull the spirit platform back up with Fox. Align Nuna with the icy tree branch and then let her fire the bola. Pull the platform right so she can jump where the ice had been.
The bird spirit will not move close enough left, but utilize the wind to get there. Jump when the wind blows fiercely to glide right onto the spirit. Position it with Fox until Nuna sees an icicle-covered tree branch. Break this with the bola, then send her jumping to the upper left platforms.
Notice the wind is still blowing and use this to your advantage again. Jump left when the wind picks up to land on far away platforms. Jump over the “trap” platform and continue left. Fox should see a spirit platform again so drag it over for Nuna to access. Pull it up to proceed then have Nuna jump when wind picks up.
There’s more ice here so break it with the bola. Send Fox to pull the orb back down somewhere that it can be shot. Get Nuna onto the spirit and then drag it with Fox so she can continue her ascent. Notice ice high up in the air and shoot it down.
This frees a spirit. Bring a bird spirit to the left via Fox and send Nuna jumping onto it when the wind is right. Nuna can climb onto the recently freed spirit at which point Fox needs to lift it up a bit. With the right height, Nuna is able to jump (during heavy wind) and land on an off-screen platform.
Send Fox right to discover a new spirit ball. Bring it back so Nuna can use her bola on it. Next, Fox needs to pull up the visible spirit platform a little so Nuna can safely jump onto it. Also, be sure to break the icicles to the right. There is another orb behind them so retreive that as well.
Bring the spirit platform down until you see the other one. Jump down to it and continue pulling with Fox until you come across bird spirits. Jump down on them and then to the left one. Pull it down and left until another platform comes into sight and go there.
Drop down and break the ice wall to continue. Retrieve the orb underneath with Fox and then throw the bola at it. When the wind is fast, jump onto the newly freed spirit. Drag it right with Fox, then have Nuna jump again during heavy winds to land on the right area.
[divider]8: Forest Lake
“It was dangerous to travel at any distances. All one could see was a mass of white swirling snow.”
After being unceremoniously dropped onto a high tree branch platform, jump down to a lower one. Notice the ice wall on the left and break it via bola. Send Fox in to retrieve a ball and break that open too. Jump onto the new spirit platform and have Fox pull it right.
Once you spy another patch of ice break that as well. Fox can now grab another orb for Nuna to use her bola on. The tree begins to move. She will need to be positioned on the top left spirit platform to remain safe, so get here there before the tree sinks.
Break ice in your way and then jump Nuna to the path which ice had just blocked. Break more ice with your bola and go right some more. Spy a raised platform and use Fox to pull it down despite it looking different from other spirit platforms so Nuna can climb aboard. Then, again, have her break more ice before jumping right.
Pull the raised platform here as well. Quickly jump onto the tree platform to avoid a “trap” one. When you see a new spirit platform, get Nuna on it before the tree sinks. Then time her jump to match up with high winds to land safely on the next platform – which breaks shortly after you land. Fall and break the ice wall in your path to continue, then break another one.
Although there is another odd-looking spirit platform here Fox cannot pull it down. Instead, drag it up. Then have Nuna jump when the winds pick up so she can sail across the chasm. For the next spirit platform you’ll want to pull it down so that when she jumps mid-windstorm she grabs it. Jump from here to the platform on the right.
Quickly jump to the spirit platform on the tree and it begins moving. Get Nuna up onto a static spirit platform before this tree sinks. Then jump to the next platform. There’s a third, much lower platform so have Fox pull it up for easier reach. Then jump once more to a non-spirit branch. Wait for fierce wind and then ride it to the right and proceed forward.
There’s another spirit platform by this high wall so pull it down for Nuna’s access. You’ll run into a burning tree branch. Break it with your bola.
Run right continuously during this segment and use Fox to pull up spirit branches in your path. Other times you must switch to Nuna to break down fiery branches.
This battle can prove quite challenging. Your goal is to make fireballs hit the dome-like branches keeping your team enclosed. This is done by pulling the spirit platform Nuna is on and luring fireball throws in the right direction. You can do the left and right branch in either order but the fireball must hit the end 1/3rd of said branch. After one is hit, use our bola to make the hanging branch piece fall down. Tip: Don’t pull the platform so close to a branch that it “kills” Nuna.
After both branches are broken, a larger one falls on the right. Lure another fireball to that one and finally use your bola on the large hanging piece. Now you can jump down from the platform and go right, through the tree.
[divider]9: Tundra Meadow
“He approached this spot and saw that for some reason, the blizzard seemed to be originating from a small tundra meadow.”
Ensure you remember to brace because there is tons of strong wind to watch out for along your walk. Eventually you will trigger a cutscene. Yes, you must climb up this thing!
Inside a slick ice room, have Fox venture up to retrieve a ball so Nuna can hit it with her bola. This reveals a vertical spirit which she can grab. When on, ensure it is pulled as high up as possible and then jump right.
Another orb resides to the top left so go get it and then break it open. Repeat what you did
just seconds ago – only this time wait for the wind to pick up before jumping off and left. Break the large blue ice covering the wall.
Jump back down with Nuna, and then to the leftmost wall (which has horizontal lines carved into it). These allow Nuna to climb, so climb up and then jump right to grab on there. Move Fox to this area and a vertical spirit is revealed. Make sure it is pulled as low as possible and get Nuna to jump and grab it. From here, pull the spirit back up so she can jump safely to the right upper area.
The next area has a thin grabbable platform between a wall and a spirit. Climb this with Nuna. When the wind picks up, jump left so she grasps it. Then have Fox pull the spirit up. When the wind pushes strongly to the right, jump off and get flung to safety.
Climb the wall with horizontal grooves and have Fox light up a hanging spirit. Jump to it and then have Fox pull it left. Once at the edge, wait for wind to pick up and jump left. Climb up this wall with Nuna to the very top. Then let the left-facing wind fling her onto a vertical spirit. Bring the spirit clinging on the left wall down and use the wind to push Nuna back left onto it. Then pull the spirit up a tad and jump right.
Again, Nuna must jump up onto a grooved wall here and proceed right.
A large sickle-shaped object comes in from the right. You must get Nuna to jump at it when the wind is fierce (and it’s low enough to actually grab onto). Climb to the top and wait for heavy left wind to jump off.
You’ll slide down and hopefully jump before Nuna faceplants into icy spikes. Once on the grooved wall watch out for the giant spikes which pound the wall. Wait until you’re clear to climb up and go to the solid platform above it. Fox then must retrieve a nearby orb in the crevice on the left for Nuna to hit with her bola.
Bring the released spirit down with Fox. Jump when the platform moves from its downward position to thrust upward as Nuna will get a height boost. When done correctly she can reach the vertical spirit and then be pulled up by Fox. Again, watch out for the spiky moving platform as you ascend.
Continue the climb and time jumps to avoid deadly icicles. Climb the arm and wait until it goes horizontal to reach the edge. At the edge, time a jump with rightward wind to land on the right ice wall.
Climb the vertical spirit here, wait for wind, and then jump off to the left. Once on this platform use the bola on the blue ice wall to break it. Then break another patch of blue ice which is lower to finish the chapter.
[divider]10: Forest Chase
“Away he went with the adze as the big man shoveled the snow, creating blizzard after blizzard. However, the big man soon saw him as he grabbed the adze and ran off with it.”
At the start, head left. Continue until you discover a tree that appears stuck in ice. Climb the spirit platform and use the bola on ice jutting up. With the tree freed, have Fox pull the platform up. When the wind is pushing heavily left, jump to land on the left spirit platform of the tree. Either pull the spirit platform with Nuna down or pull branches in the way up so that the journey leftward is smooth.
Destroy the giant iceberg with your bola to continue the ride. When you spy icicles, break them too. With more tree branches in your path either pull them up or move your own platform lower. Break down another iceberg and continue avoiding branches.
Finally the tree stops. Send Nuna jumping left to another platform when the winds pick up. Pull it up a bit with Fox’s help and then when the wind increases jump left again.
[divider]11: Coastal Chase
“He threw down his shovel, climbed up from the flat tundra and ran after Kunuukaayuka but Kunuuksaayuka was too fast.”
Head left until you reach a high wall. Send Nuna to climb a small wooden building and then jump left up to a higher one. Once the wind blows heavily then jump to the next area.
Jump from underneath a wooden tower to a bridge on the left. Suddenly, the tower crashes and takes the bridge with it! But a large spirit should be underneath to save you. Raise it up with Fox’s assistance and head left.
There is a large chasm here that seems impossible. Send Fox down to retrieve an orb and shoot it open with the bola. Drag the bird spirit via Fox with Nuna on top to the left. Watch out for the green beings, though.
[divider] [wp_ad_camp_1]12: Ice Floes Chase
“Off he had run with the adze in his hand. The big man chased him without catching him.”
Continue left and when there seems to be no more platforms, fish spirits appear. Climb on top and let Fox pull them along. When you come across a second school of spirit fish repeat the procedure.
Watch out because there are platforms here which smash into each other. Time your jumps to avoid being smushed. Hitch a quick ride on some more fish spirits between all this.
Soon enough you have another run in with a polar bear. Fox’s mere existence should help make the bear run off. Continue left and ride more fish spirits.
[divider]13: Epilogue
“The big man had seen his adze being tossed up and out the skylight and because this made him so happy, he burst out laughing like this, ‘Kunuuksaayuka aria ha, ioi hi.’ ”

Thanks, The man-eater puzzle had me clueless. Don’t know why I didn’t think of the bola.
would be better if locations to owls was on it but a good guide
I can’t even seem to outrun the bear at the beginning!
Game stopping glitch with the forest chase quest. The tree will not move after braking the ice. This is a huge disappointment to me. Does anyone know a fix?
Samething is happening with me
I am stuck on the ice flows level. After the bear attacks and the ice sinks. The spirit fish are supposed to take you where you need to go, but they do not move. I am stuck standing above them with no where to go. Am I missing something?
