Despite being a fan of horror, tales of zombies actually are pretty low on my list of favorites. It takes a gripping story or interesting premise to pique my interest. Telltale’s The Walking Dead certainly comes to mind. And so does Aberford. Like its inspiration, while taking on the undead menace is a big plot device it’s also about the characters and how they deal with a world that’s just been turned upside down. Which lends a more human element to any story and helps to understand their plight.

Aberford

Aberford takes place in the 1950s, and our heroines are a combination of traditional housewife and badass zombie bashers. Seriously, when push comes to shove they’ll shove back. Probably with a frying pan or broom. If you want a strong female lead that’s at the same time relatable to regular everyday people this is certainly one to consider.

If you just want to drop into the action without all that boring story to get in the way you can play the challenge mode. But, if you’re like me and want adventurey type elements to go with the brain bashing I’d highly suggest checking out the campaign. It might just bring to light what happened. Apparently the men have all taken to becoming mindless groaning beasts out for flesh and it’s up to our four heroines to save the day. One modern day appliance at a time.

Aberford

What sets Aberford apart from most of the titles in the genre is that it takes place right at the outset of the viral outbreak. When nobody has any clue as to what’s going on and are just learning to cope. As I said, I’m not a fan of zombie tales, but this is one that I have to keep my eyes on because it’s different from the rest.
