Afterland‘s heading for a global release on October 1st, according to an update posted to the project’s Kickstarter page. The hand-painted card game will be released on both iOS and Android devices.

Having only played Hearthstone, I’m no expert when it comes to digital card games, but Afterland‘s striking art style has me intrigued. There’s something almost Burtonesque about the dark character designs, which are as colorful as they are creepy.

AfterlandThere’s depth behind the stunning visuals, too. Indeed, the game was made to raise awareness of the gender and race stereotypes prevalent in popular media.

Canadian developer Imaginary Games plans on rewarding the 488 backers that pledged $35,764 towards the project with in-game card packs. If that makes you feel left out, you can take part in the game’s Missing Rabbit pre-launch contest over on Facebook.
