Ever since I first read The Hobbit and saw just how badass Smaug was I instantly fell in love with dragons. The noble qualities, fierce determinism, and just the fact that these guys can breath freakin’ fire were enough for me to want more. There are plenty of fantasy games and settings out there that feature these terrors of the sky but rarely do you see them as the protagonist in their own tale. While ambitious, Dragon: The Game looks to be an interesting take on the usual tropes of these lizards with wings.

Dragon: The Game

Here you’ll be taking on the role of one of five types of dragons. Customize their appearance and abilities and take to the skies. You can do whatever you want. Go all Trogdor and burninate the countryside or work alongside the humans to help them prosper while you reap the benefits. In true RPG fashion you can also take on quests, accumulate wealth, and just basically fly around doing stuff. This is pretty much open world at its finest. Assuming they follow through with everything promised. Honestly, this is an ambitious project and it’s hard to believe that $30,000 is enough to do what they want. Unless they’re in the home stretch and are just trying to get money to finish Dragon: The Game.

Dragon: The Game

When I first saw the draft for the Kickstarter I was quite underwhelmed by what I saw. But, after taking in the new pitch I’m actually excited to see where they take Dragon: The Game. Even if I don’t back the project I’ll keep a close eye on the development just for the sheer reason that it’s dragons. If even a good portion of what’s been promised makes it in I think $15 is a good deal for a game like this.
