Despite my love and enthusiasm of a project I will have to admit that a long period of silence between updates does leave me with less than pure optimism. Even one that has me as excited as Zeebarf’s The Ballads of Reemus 2, which was successfully funded nearly two-and-a-half years ago. Until last week it had been a full year since we heard anything from him and the project. Considering how many titles that I’ve backed in my time on Kickstarter I started to forget that I even backed this one. Which is never a good thing.

That said, at least we sort of know why we were left in the dark for so long as the latest update goes over briefly what has happened in the intervening period. Developer Jay “Zeebarf” Ziebarth’s biggest “hubris”, as he called it, was a surety that he could learn Unity and a dedicated adventure plugin on his own while working on assets. After a year of struggling he realized his folly and started looking for a dedicated programmer. Which was fraught with one problem after another. Until now, at least. With his own game in the home stretch, Robert Busey (Sword ‘n Board) graciously offered to help get the game finished and released to the masses.

While it will still be some time before we see a finished product, Ziebarth assures backers that The Ballads of Reemus 2 will eventually see the light of day, indicating that he doesn’t want to be one of those who decide to throw in the towel and move on; which is certainly something that I can respect. As a fan of the series I can’t wait to see what he comes up with in the end. I’m willing to wait a bit longer for a polished and finished game, and based on backers comments in the update I’m not the only one.
