I was a little surprised by Wizard of Legend’s large funding goal of $50,000. Usually, when I see a retro or pixel art style game on Kickstarter it’s on a shoe string budget. I’m not sure what all the money is going to go into here. The developers did upload a fun demo and Wizard of Legend looks like it will be a ton of fun though. You use some magical abilities to zoom around and beat up bad guys and it’s pretty simple. There is a story, but I don’t really expect much of a campaign out of this game.

Wizard of Legend

Wizard of Legend seems like a game you play with friends that you can pick up and put down rather than something I’d get engrossed in.

I do find this 2D Dungeon Crawler interesting, though. It mentions on it’s Kickstarter page that the dungeons are a mixture of procedurally generated and contain pre-crafted elements. That may not sound like much, but I think it is important. I really like procedurally generated levels just for the sake of replayability.

Wizard of Legend

At the same time, I do like to get good at maps (this is why I often have Race the Sun minimized on my Vita for weeks on end), and sometimes I feel that something is lost when we rely too heavily on procedural generation. It just lacks that personal quirkiness a hand crafted map has. Still, each side has pros and cons and it is really up to the player to decide what they like.

Wizard of Legend

Wizard of Legend has Local Multiplayer.

I’m still on the fence about backing Wizard of Legend, the game seems entirely focused on gameplay. Which is great, you know it’ll be fun to play, but I just doubt it will have a substantial story campaign. Still, I know many people enjoy a game that you can pick up and put down at will especially one with multiplayer like Wizard of Legend. What do you think of the project? I do quite like the developers attitude.
