Elysian Shadows raised $185,322 with the help of 2,282 Kickstarter backers in 2014. This 2D pixel art/3D environment fusion RPG featured dynamic lighting, shadows, physics, and positional audio. Basically, it was a really ambitious project being created by a relatively small development team. As such, there was some team drama that threatened the future of the game late last year.
Pressing Forward
With three consecutive months of Kickstarter updates under its belt, it seems like Elysian Shadows has finally pulled itself and its new team back together. Granted the initial September update was mostly just the promise of increased communication and transparency going forward. Since the updates have continued coming backers have shown an increase of confidence in the project.
The team’s YouTube series, Adventures in Game Development shows off the vast majority of the development minutia over the past month. Here members of the team show off what they’ve been working on. This is leading up to a series of demo releases planned for 2017.
Following a re-envisioning of the team’s strategy and direction, Brandon Likes was brought on to handle PR and social media efforts. This will allow Elysian Shadows to deliver a simple and unified message across its communication’s channels. Of course all of this will be for naught if the team isn’t able to keep pushing forward with development. Hopefully, they won’t hit anymore snags.
