Just when you think visual novels couldn’t get any weirder it’s almost inevitable that another one comes along to make you question your sanity. After being able to date birds, dragons, and even girls with the personality of World War II tanks one has to wonder what other strangeness this genre can impose upon its fans. Well, this time we get to date skeletons in Sukerunton To Koi Ni. That’s right…skeletons.
In Sukerunton To Koi Ni you play as a real live flesh-and-blood girl as you get accepted into some prestigious school or something. The only problem? All of the other students aren’t exactly what you’d expect. Everyone minus some of the faculty are of the living impaired variety, walking bags of bones if you will. And, apparently, at least the main love interests are dressed for the occasion and have full heads of hair minus the skin and muscles usually attached to it. Yeah, my first impression of this premise was that it had to be a joke.
Even with a modest asking goal of two thousand bucks I’d be surprised if it made funding based purely on the fact that you…date…skeletons! Sukerunton To Koi Ni surely did not tickle my funny bone but it sure as hell chilled me to the bone. I usually have no problems with playing games that feature the undead but most of them don’t have you getting all sweet on them. Still, if you’re the type that’s ready to romance some of these walking dead then this might just be for you. The only thing about it that caught my interest was the use of a Snake-like mini-game in the vein of HuniePop. Even then, it’s not enough for me to back weirdness that’s just a bit too weird for me.

What is up with the English Visual Novel community? Some of these games are getting weirder and weirder, and not in a bad way, just a weird way 😛
I do love checking the latest Kickstarter campaigns and seeing some of the off the wall stuff coming out of the world of visual novels. Panzemadels still stands out to me, hehe.
