[dropcap size=big]E[/dropcap]very week we take a brief look at all of the Kickstarter video game campaigns that launched in the previous week.  This isn’t to say that all of these projects are worth your hard earned cash, but with any luck having all of them in one place will make it easier to educate yourself on the projects you’d like to back, and which ones to run from.  You’ll find two types of campaigns listed, “featured” and “the rest“.  Featured campaigns are those that contain a significant amount of game information, are from known developers, or are significant in some other way.  The rest of the games are usually smaller campaigns that are lacking in information, are from unknowns, have unanswered questions, or have not yet stood out for one reason or another.

Featured Campaigns :

tiny & Tall: GleipnirGame : tiny & Tall: Gleipnir :

What it is : Serena wrote: “We all know the legends of the Norse gods and the Vikings that worship them, but what if there’s more to the story than what we’ve been told? What if the hero of a legenderary epic isn’t some brave warrior with a battle axe dripping with the blood of his enemies? What if the ones who save the day are nothing more than what the universe would consider an infinitesimal speck in the cosmos? Well, tiny & Tall: Gleipnir aims to tell the story of two blacksmiths tasked with a quest so important that the fate of the universe (or something) is at stake.

Battle Chasers: NightwarGame : Battle Chasers: Nightwar :

What it is : Serena wrote: “In all, I really do like the idea behind Battle Chasers: Nightwar. It’s certainly an RPG that I want to keep an eye on whether or not I decide to back it. Because the world and plot sounds like an incredible diversion. And, apparently the game is based off of a series of comics done by the main person in charge of development. And the founders of Airship Syndicate used to work on AAA tiles like the Darksiders series. Which is probably one of the main reasons why the campaign is doing so well just in the first day.

crashnautslogo2Game : Crashnauts :

What it is : Sean wrote: “In the last few years there has been a great resurgence in couch based multilayer games, so with it comes the Kickstarter for Crashnauts. A fast paced 2D  shooter coming to both PC and PS4, it’s marketing self as being an objective focused, hectic, multilayer experience. Being at a very early stage in its Kickstarter with less than $4,000 pledged of its $40,000 goal with 28 days left, its got some distance to go but what they have so far looks promising.”

EssenceGame : Essence :

What it is : Serena wrote: “Say what you will about games where you take a leisurely stroll through the world created but sometimes you just want to have an experience that’s built to make you think and feel over forcing you to have twitchy fingers and reflexes of a cat. And Essence looks to take this idea to the next level. Some people may think that games like Gone Home and Dear Esther aren’t real games, but I have to disagree there. In fact, sometimes they give a much deeper experience than other genres. And you can explore at your own pace.

12isbetterthan610Game : 12 is Better Than 6 :

What it is : Greg wrote: “For my part 12 is Better Than 6 wasn’t at all what I was expecting.  When I loaded up the demo I figured I’d be racing through hand-drawn levels mowing enemies down ala Alien Shooter; boy was I wrong.  While twitchy gamers may be able to race through 12 is Better Than 6, I found myself having to work through things from a more tactical standpoint.  A dearth of ammo, the one shot kills, and the need to chamber rounds before firing means that combat in the game isn’t something you simply rush through, it needs to be planned.  Once you get into a firefight though things are terrifying, bloody, and completely satisfying.

Cold HorizonGame : Cold Horizon :

What it is : Serena wrote: “Cold Horizon is a 2D platformer set in a world devastated by whatever calamity that has befallen it. And the survivors do whatever they can to stay alive. That’s about where it stops being just another example of the genre and starts to deviate from the norm. Enter a polar bear and a boy with strange and special powers as they travel the lands to escape those who want to use him for their own purposes.

While I’m not much of a platformer fan I do find the story quite intriguing and one that I want to keep an eye on. For you see, as the two tackle insurmountable odds to make it out safely they forge a deep bond that reflects on how they work together. And the further they get the closer they become, even unlocking new powers and abilities as they continue their struggle..

The Rest of the Campaigns :

Lost Wind: A Horror Adventure : These developers had an unsuccessful campaign a couple weeks ago for a completely different game.

De Mambo : Cool enough looking game but the funding is wacky.  They’ve already raised $10,000 from 68 backers?  Hrmm

RipTide Revolution : This might set a new standard for providing little to no information.

Fist of the Gods : Another developer asking for $100k with nothing to show.

Apple Bob : The developer wants to upgrade a game they’ve already made, but failed to show the game.

Tankr : A lovely looking update to the tank battles of Combat.

Indigenous : Lovely cover art, but that’s all there is to see.

On Tour : A board game about being a band out on the road.

Super Micro Heroes : A cute competitive platformer.  Really love the artwork.

Cool Village Online : Whoof, this is looking rough.

Hang up Los Angeles : A Hotline Miami inspired action game that looks like yet another RPG Maker game.

Survive if you can : A relaunch of a failed $100k campaign from last month.  The new goal is not much better at $28k

Shapes 2 : A blocky Flappy Bird clone that doesn’t look as bad as it sounds.

Inperium : $90k with nothing to see.

The Last Winter : This campaign contains no information, but this line at the end is great: “I guess the only risks for me would be not being able to create this game.”

Deadmans Land : An RPG Maker game with a very reasonable funding goal of $280.

The Barin’s Bane Chapter 1 : The Keftark’s Rebellion : Yet another campaign with nothing to look at.

Gray Dawn : A horror adventure that I definitely need to take a closer look at.

The Hollow Earth : A 3rd person shooter that feels like it’s straight out of 1999.

That’s it for last week’s Kickstarter video game campaigns.  Watch your wallets!
