Point and click games have been a great story telling medium since the days of DOS, and that hasn’t changed much over the years. Kickstarter is just full of these things, and for good reason: anyone can put one together. What makes an adventure game special though is the writing, the atmosphere, the puzzles, and the story, and Thomas Busse is drawing inspiration from some of the greatest stories ever told for his horror point and click, the writings of H. P. Lovecraft.
The Eldritch Cases: Dagon takes place in the Cthulhu mythos, and is based around events that take place in Dagon, Shadow over Innsmouth and Herbert West, Reanimator. Strange people hide amongst the rocks of Devil’s Reef, a small island off the coast of Innsmouth that most believed to be uninhabited. Prohibition-era police suspicion suggests that the island is being used to smuggle alcohol, but that doesn’t explain the strange, cultist chanting that fills the air at night. Gameplay will consist of third-person point and click adventure that borrows concepts from the Broken Sword series, right down to the interlinking stories of two playable protagonists.
The Eldritch Cases: Dagon is currently seeking £20,000 in funding, and has less than a month to get there, but with your help, it’s possible. If everything goes according to plan, upon completion, The Eldritch Cases: Dagon will be released on Windows, Mac, and Linux in both an English and German translation. If all this is ringing your brain-bells, there are plenty more details over at Kickstarter.
