duke1It’s pretty much the law that as a PC gamer you must look back at the extensive library of LucasArts adventure games with fond memories.  Even if you never played a minute of Grim Fandango, Monkey Island, Maniac Mansion, or any of the others; it is expected that somewhere deep in your soul you acknowledge the greatness of the LucasArts adventure titles.  With those fond memories (whether or not they’re yours doesn’t matter) comes the desire to re-live those golden days of disk swapping, pc speaker booping, and absurd item collecting.  Thankfully, one of the core values of Kickstarter as a company is to help recreate that gaming golden age for the modern generation; or so it seems.

duke2And with that, we have the Kickstarter campaign for Duke Grabowski: Mighty Swashbuckler from Venture Moon Industries.  Comprised of a number of industry vets, including LucasArts’ own Bill Tiller (Full Throttle, Outlaws, Curse of Monkey Island, drooooool) Venture Moon is selling the Monkey Island angle pretty heavily; and there isn’t a single thing wrong with that.  From the character design, to the environments, nearly everything about Duke Grabowski screams Monkey Island.  However, rather than just being a cynical update to a classic franchise, Duke Grabowski has a number of twists that should help it stand apart from its primary inspiration; head over to the Kickstarter campaign to find out more.

Whether you’re a fan of the classic LucasArts adventure games or not (you are), it’s worth checking out Duke Grabowski; it’s got a humble funding goal, some great artwork, and an experienced team.
