I’m usually fine with seeing a game developer make a small cameo in one of their titles. I’ve actually liked seeing these little “easter eggs” pop up from time to time. However, rarely do I see one actually featuring several as playable characters. With Dawn of the Devs, we’ll be treated to at least three big names in the industry.
I’m a fan of satirical games, even if the genre of choice isn’t one of my favorites. Despite not being a platformer fan, I do really love the premise behind Dawn of the Devs. The idea that the worst of the Internet has come to life and only developers can save the day is certainly interesting. I’m particularly interested in how the Tim Schafer knock-off uses adventure game elements to get past obstacles.
I’ll admit that it’s strange that developers of three disparate genres are thrust into a fourth that, as far as I know, none are particularly known for. However, looking at what’s there it does look like they work well together. Dawn of the Devs is certainly a unique game. This is one that I’m tempted to give a few bucks to just to see how it all plays out.
Even if you don’t take into account the developers themselves, there’s plenty to enjoy here. In Dawn of the Devs, you’ll be fighting trolls, pirates, and evil corporate dudes as you work on taking down the dreaded C.E.O. In fact, I’ve found myself snickering more at this one than most other games that I’ve backed.
Looks interesting, but I’m not sure I’m invested enough in individual devs to appreciate it.
I’m honestly not sure if I think this one is worth backing or not. I do like the premise and all, but it’s a weird mash-up.
Yeah, I’m kind of on the fence myself. The artwork looks amazing, and the concept is funny. But I’d rather have some new unique characters than a bunch of inside jokes that only a small segment of gamers will get.
