[dropcap size=big]E[/dropcap]very week we take a brief look at all of the Kickstarter video game campaigns that launched in the previous week.  This isn’t to say that all of these projects are worth your hard earned cash, but with any luck having all of them in one place will make it easier to educate yourself on the projects you’d like to back, and which ones to run from.  You’ll find two types of campaigns listed, “featured” and “the rest“.  Featured campaigns are those that contain a significant amount of game information, are from known developers, or are significant in some other way.  The rest of the games are usually smaller campaigns that are lacking in information, are from unknowns, have unanswered questions, or have not yet stood out for one reason or another.

Featured Campaigns :

Into The Stars is an open world space game on Kickstarter. Think Oregon Trails meets FTL.Game : Into the Stars

What it is : Marcus wrote: “Space exploration has always intrigued humans but it’s thanks to video games that the vast majority of us can enjoy such an experience digitally. Lately, we’ve seen a huge boom in the genre of space sim/exploration games and the latest out there is Into the Stars. Indie developer Fugitive Games has gotten far with their project, but is now seeking a successful Kickstarter campaign to give their game the next big push.”

Sol Trader is an Asteroids and Elite mashup that's on Kickstarter

Game : Sol Trader

What it is : Marcus wrote: “Sometimes, people bring projects to Kickstarter which are just at the very first planning stages. As cool as their concepts might be, it’s hard to determine how the actual final product will fare! Sol Trader is different. Right off the bat developer Chris Parsons lets everyone know he has actually been working on this game for 3 years in his spare time. As of right now, this unique space title is already in alpha, but requires Kickstarter backers to fund £20,000 (about $30,470) to provide him the time required to finish this game in 2015..”

Identity is a new MMO that lets you do almost anything, and it's crowdfunding on Kickstarter.Game : Identity

What it is : Marcus wrote: “Identity perfectly embodies its name. It wants to be a game where the player can live out their digital life exactly as they see fit. From the clothes they wear to the actions they participate in it seems that everyone is under their control. Some examples in the funding video involved someone entering a suit store, being in prison, taking on the role of a cop, or hunting in the woods. Other options described included things like becoming a business owner, sailing a boat, and lots of other features. It sounds outrageously cool. In many ways, it cribs off the modern Grand Theft Auto style, but from a purely MMO perspective since “everyone” in game is a real player.”

Animal Lover is a Visual Novel on Kickstarter about guys from the past that used to be animals but are now human again.Game : Animal Lover

What it is : Marcus wrote: “Just as English-speaking audiences are getting used to the concept of “visual novels” we have had many Kickstarter campaigns crop up for new ones. Of course, coming from existing fans of the genre, most of these titles do not include the heavy focus on ‘gameplay’ as names such as Phoenix Wright or 999. Circles, for example, is a brand new Kickstarter campaign which pitches itself as a kinetic novel. We’ll get to what that means in a moment. First, let’s delve into the story (well – the small bit that has been revealed in the pitch).”

driftstagelogoGame : Drift Stage

What it is : Marcus wrote: “As the name implies, you’re going to drift a lot in Drift Stage. The demo only has one arcade level but it gives a good taste for the mechanics at play. When played with a control acceleration is mapped to the right trigger while brakes are on left. Gear shifting appears automatic allowing you to blaze down the highway. However, this stage comes full of sharp turns. You’ve got to drift! Drifting is handled by letting go of acceleration, tapping breaks, and then tilting the analog stick left or right. The degree at which you tilt it changes the angle of drift, from slight to really extreme.”

Circles is a visual novel on Kickstarter that really focuses on the Novel part.Game : Circles

The Rest of the Campaigns :

Hollow’s Land : An interesting looking game with some great footage; needs a Kickstarter overhaul though.

The 100% realistic FPS game : $300k for a screenshot and a little text; not very realistic.

3D Multiplayer Space Combat Game : Another game with plenty of gameplay footage, but no screenshots. The hyper-aggressive funding goal isn’t helping.

SIG (Solar, Inverter, Grid) : A great concept, with execution that needs a lot of help.

LEGENDARY : It can be difficult to talk about what’s being proposed when there’s absolutely nothing shown.

The Dekker Records: Thunder Stone Blues : An old-school 16bit rpg that looks pretty cool; but like Hollow’s Land, the Kickstarter needs an overhaul.

Oh Crab! : A retro style top-down shooter.

After Life of Endlessages ; Winner of not just this weeks “Least info provided in a Kickstarter” award, but also the most jarring logo.

Bitten reloaded : A very pretty first person horror survival game.

jacksFPS : A first person zombie shooter.

Damned Nation Reborn : A first person zombie shooter survival tower defense game.  That’s a lot happening!

Astonia Reborn : A retro style MMO that’s actually up and running, the campaign is to make improvements.

Demon War Survival : A very colorful Gauntlet clone.

Rose Racer : A cartoonish racer with a campaign page that spends more time on the developers than it does on the game itself.

Project Legacy : An action RPG with nothing shown and not much shared.

Bubble Kitty Nom Noms : KITTIES!  PINKS LETTERS! BUBBLES!

That’s it for last weeks Kickstarter campaigns.  Watch your wallets!
